Tips - To the BEACH!!

so i promised at my perhentian trip post that i'll write up a post about what to wear to the beach.
sorry it took a while!

basically it's quite simple. i like to pack light coz to go to perhentian or any other beaches in Malaysia, you will have to take a boat or ferry from a jetty to the island.
so you have to prepare yourselves with bags yang easy to carry and wear comfy clothes. coz you have to climb in and out of the boat/ferry. motip la kan nak pakai high heels and tight dresses and then you have to climb into a speedboat.
i know right.. =\

from the comments, a lot of you girls have concerns when it comes to doing watersports like snorkeling or simply just swimming in the sea as a hijabi.

i was quite concerned myself..

so, from my first time experience, these are the 10 things you can't go to the beach without!

1. a thin material shawl, i think it's called chiffon. haha! sorry, bad with kain names.
so why thin material shawl? - coz i want it to dry up fast. i prefer shawls but i know some prefer tudung bawal. it's up to your comfort k?

2. inner neck. this you can buy at jalan tar, or online. it's practically at every hijab store too. i wear this for the obvious reason. so that my hair & neck will be covered. biarlah layer lebih, asalkan terjaga. heheee =)

3. long sleeved top, and i was wearing a cotton material top so that it would dry up quickly.

4. harem printed pants coz i don't want my pants to rise up above my ankles and printed because it distracts from making the shape of my legs obvious when the pants is wet. haha! fikir jauh okaaayhhhh! you can buy harem pants at the jetty if you haven't got any, or use track pants which is tight at the ankles. wear what you have je~

5. flats/slippers. i used flats because i forgot to bring my slippers. but really, all you need is one foot wear. coz at the beach, it feels better to just be barefoot. your feet sinks in the sands anyway.

6. PARIO! or kain batik. extremely important because you will need it to wrap yourselves in it when you're still soaking wet. takleh blah kan nak posing posing ngan pario. hahahaa! =p

7. SUNBLOCK!!! this is the other important thing you must have with you at all times!!

ok meh i bagi skin care tips sat nooo~
i recommend Sunplay ni because it has the highest SPF and affordable. SPF stands for 'sun protection factor' and the higher the SPF number, the longer the protection time. look at the ad, Sunplay's sunblock is SPF 130!! apart from protecting the skin from UVA and UVB rays, it can hydrate our skin from the super sun exposure at the beach.

so bring it along with you when you go snorkeling! after snorkel, top up sikit kat muka. my friends and i camtu la. after snorkeling at one point, we top up our sunblock before reaching to our next snorkeling point. alhamdulillah i didn't tan too much! considering the many hours spent in the salt water under the hot blazing sun, i didn't even get sunburnt! =D

girls (and guys?), i hope you make it a habit to wear sunplay sunblock before going out for outdoor activities like snorkeling. Afterall, Sunplay sunblock acts as an anti-ageing agent. definitely a plus!!

fyi, i put on sunblock everytime i go out for outdoor activities like jogging, snorkeling, etc etc.
that's why i look like a 16 year old. *lawak hambar*

8. swimming suit/tank top/inner wear to wear underneath your top because sometimes our top will move about thus showing off our skin when in the water. i was wearing a long tank top which i tucked in the pants. so bila baju naik naik, tak nampak la badan. =)

9. sunglasses/shades! your eyes need some TLC too you know and apa salahnya nampak over sikit kat beach? AHAKK! =p

10. waterproof bag where you put all your gadgets, sunblock, pario, food, drinks, etc etc. this can be found anywhere on the island. it costs around RM 80 - 100, so bring some money along. but if you don't wanna buy a waterproof bag, just bring a handy bag for you to carry around. i didn't buy mine fyi. i borrowed from my friend. =)

so that's it really.
the reason why i didn't wear a muslimah swimming suit is because i don't want to spend money on something i know i won't wear frequently. bila masa la i nak swim swim kan? so i just wear what i have and make the most of it.
yeah, it's a lot of layers, but that's where our iman is tested isn't it?
so chill la and enjoy the water, the beach, the sand, the ambience!

and wear your sunblock please!!

ok here are the reasons why i made this video:

1. because i get tweets about how to handle haters
2. because i get messages about how to handle haters
3. because i feel like i owe haters an apology and give them my thanks

ok? so yeah. i've been receiving messages about this and please peeps, i tak sedih sebab haters!
i'm not sad, depressed nor hurt by the haters! if i looked sad, it's probably coz i was sad at myself (for personal reasons which i wont story mory here la. heeee..)

i wrote in the description of this video too about how these 'haters' are actually my saviours, but i guess people don't read that bit. hahaha! oh well. my bad gak la sebab i didnt mention it myself. i was talking spontaneously kan. takde script mende pun. buahahaha! =p

i can't believe though, how many people asked me about this. and i macam "kamaaannn, takkan la ramai sangat orang ada haters neeehhhhh?"
like i said in the video too, there are 2 types of 'haters'.
one species just wanna troll.
one species just dont know how to give their honest brutal opinions nicely, but they mean well.
=)

why so serious?

my mom used to slap me when i did something wrong and scolded me, but i love her more for that. if she hadn't done that, i'll probably be some messed up person now. before you say things about my mom, i totally deserved all that coz i was a very stubborn child.
same applies to these 'haters'.
they might be very angry or something at you, but there must be a reason why they're like that. probably you did something wrong but you're just too proud to see it.

drop that ego!

i memang la ada terasa sometimes, i am human after all. a girl, with feelings, with harry potter bantal and cats. and dresses and flowers. motip? ok, you get the gist. =p
but oh well. we can't win over all hearts.

i have been working as an engineer ni for almost two years and i think i hardly ever talk about it.
sedih.
bukan apa, i blame the media.

kalau ada pun, tak melekat kat people's minds to know what engineers do. coz we all know what doctors do, what teachers do, what happens in glee clubs and hair salons, but really, apa sangat yang orang tau pasal engineers?

kalau buat satu project, tak kisah la rumah ke, building ke, toilet ke, train station ke, fittings mesti ada. fittings ni diumpamakan as penyambung. Fit-Tings. It Fits. eh macam potential nama kedai je. ahak!
function fittings ni, well, menyambungkan pipes or besi or whatever.

i dulu awal-awal kerja selalu gila pergi hardware store to stock up these fittings. so i almost kinda memorised all the fittings that are commonly used. like these two!

oh, by the way, now that we are aware of the existence of fittings, kalau boss you tengok kat purchase orders and ask

"whose nipple is this??? 1 and a half inch??"

just recently i've been looking through my baby pictures, because, well.. if i might say so myself, imma cute bebeh. hahahaha!! muntah-hijau-pastu-ada-sayur-sayur-sikit-please. =p

my family always talk (present tense sebab we still talk about it) about how i looked chinese as a baby and how i look very different now as an adult. ye la.. dulu mata sepet la gak. kulit putih macam amoi. gigi dua batang besar. cakap pun boleh tahan macam chinese la. hahahahaa! ok tu exaggerate je. tengok pics sebagai supporting evidence.

 abang abang setan yang selalu buli saya . setan pun setan, sayang tetap sayang. =B

i pun tak tau la. all i notice is my cuteness. muntah-brown-ada-coco-pops-sikit-please. =p

now lak, muka i ni boleh pass as pakistani, bangladeshi, chinese mualaf, malay (duhh), arab, dan macam macam lagi. bukan i tipu, ladies and gentleman. i don't even take it as a compliment neither an insult. i just rasa its kelakar.

one time i was at a petrol station and this pakistani helper tu tanya i.

Pakistani helper: awak.. pakistan ka?
saya: ha? you rasa? (senyum senget sebelah tanda curious)
Pakistani helper: pakistan (angguk tanda hipotesis beliau diterima)
saya: mana ada la! saya melayu.
Pakistani helper: ha?! tipu!
saya: ya Allah. tak tipu la! tolong saya isi minyak ya. saya bayar dulu.
Pakistani helper: (pandang saya with the look of disappointment)
saya: (senyum mata tutup, tunjuk gigi, tunjuk peace sebagai tanda "lek la bro")

another time, i was with my friends in JB. a chinese shopkeeper dengan selambanya tanya..

chinese shopkeeper: (tanya kawan tapi tuding jari ke arah saya) she arab ah?
saya: saya ke?
chinese shopkeeper: (tengok saya dengan muka terkejut. boleh nampak kening dia hilang dalam bangs dia) eh? you malay kah?
saya: ya lorrr. aunty ingat saya arab ka?
chinese shopkeeper: ahahaah ahahahh (gelak awkward) sorry ya sorry. 

lagi satu. i was at my office. a supplier came and introduced himself to us. kita dah kenal the company, but this guy was new.

saya: hi, i'm maria.
supplier: maria?
saya: yeah. (senyum)
supplier: you're a convert ke? (tanya perlahan lahan)
saya: ha? why you say that? (curious dan terkejut)
supplier: maria is an indian name, right?
saya: ahahahahahahh! where got laaaaa! ada ramai orang nama maria okaaayyyy~

bukan i tipu, again. dah banyak kali i kena these kinda things. apart from that, ramai gak claimed they saw me at places i never was! ada yang nampak i kat klcc la, kat terengganu la, kat kolej mana entah la padahal i was some place else. muka i international and i rasa i dah lebih 7 pelanduk serupa. beribu riban dah kot. hahaha!!

maybe it is the eyes and the nose.

funny how i was from chinese looking baby to a... apa-apa-bangsa-looking-pun-boleh adult. haha!!

well. kalau orang kata i have pakistani whatever look yang belah2 india, i tak kisah sangat coz i memang ada indian genes. arwah moyang tok is from sri lanka, indian muslim la gitu. and my tokwan is chinese. 

kalau orang kata i muka macam scottish or irish or or.. or japanese, memang i terkejut beruk la! and i akan buat pose beruk kalau orang cakap camtu. true story.

case compare dan complain

assalamualaikum~

i don't really remember where i saw this, but a while ago, i macam ternampak (again i forgot where) a group of girls comparing themselves with random people.
example:
"cantik nya maria selena gomez (pun boleehhh).. untung lah.. dah la boipren asbieber (pun boleeehhhh)"

"untunglah husband hot"

"untunglah dia kaya"

"untunglah ni.. untunglah tu.."

- these are only examples ok! =p

so back then when i saw these kinds of comments, it's like.. men-downkan i.
i lak yang down! padahal diorang duk sibuk nakkan apa orang lain ada. motif kan?
but see, i rasa sedih tu, sebab we shouldn't compare.

rezeki diorang camtu, nak buat camane?
so what if we don't have their rezeki. we're all blessed anyway!!
we can read right? else you won't be reading this.
we can see right?
we can eat, taste, drink, talk, we can do so many things!
whereas there are people who are less fortunate than us. some can't see, some can't hear, some don't even know what internet is!

we are blessed.
we are fortunate enough.

it's time to stop comparing and complaining. i've made a video already about it kan? 'who wins' tu.
and here, i nak relate kan ngan bloggers. (and i'm sorry i bring this up)
a few times some people tag me on their blog posts, and some posts are about the number of followers on blogs. pastu duk compare compare. honestly, i rasa itu tak perlu.

anyway, when you compare, chances are; you'll become competitive for no good reason, you'll forget the rezeki that you already have, you'll become spoil in your own world, wanting and craving for something only you know, and because you can't get it, you'll get depressed. and when depression looms, negativity will become part of you.
when you complain, you're just wasting your time! lagi lagi when you complain and do nothing about it.
you can compare and complain, but there has to be a limit..

and we can't wish we're someone else or live someone else's life because it's not possible.
someone once said to me
"susah tau jadi i.." pastu ada sadface.
and i thought, well, it's never easy for anyone.

Allah swt has given us life, the life we're living, and is it 'nice' of us if we wished we can have another person's life?

be grateful. that's all it takes.
not confidence, not arrogance, not make up, not clothes.
nothing of the sort.

just be grateful.
maybe it's time to stop all this 'untunglah' thing. kita lebihkan 'alhamdulillah'. =)

so a few days ago, i had a weird day. wait, scratch that. i had a weird week.

it wasn't so weird earlier this week. but tengah tengah tu.. astaghfirullahalazim..

on this one fine day, i kept dropping everything i hold. syndrome butter fingers yang melampau. dah budak mckk, jangan tiba2 perasan ingat i cite pasal band butterfingers tu ya. i know they rock, i love them too, but i'm talking about being clumsy.

i dropped my phone on numerous occasions. my phone ni agak la precious. bukan agak. memang precious gila la wei. so those times i dropped it, on hard floor, on carpeted floor, on tables, almost in the toilet (fiuhh!!) and on 90degrees elbows, rasa cam time stopped and the sound of the impact cracked my heart open.

but because it's precious, it's important and definitely not cheap, rasa sakit kot!

tapi motif jatuhkan phone? memang takde la. dia nak jatuh. aiseyman..

pastu bukan phone je.

even PLC. nasib la PLC tu rosak. kalau tak, mampus nak kena bayar rm10,000++. memang boleh jadi makcik cleaner part time kat company i tu sepuluh tahun to pay back.

ok enough about workplace!

after work, i headed to midvalley kerana mau ketemu rakan-rakan.

it was raining heavily then, and on a slight corner, kereta depan kereta den punya brake lights dinyalakan, maka saya pun tekanlah brake.

pastu suddenly my car started swerving left and right and left and right!!!

woi!! i thought i was going to get into an accident!!!

it was so mighty scary, i cannot explain..

dah la i was driving my kembara!

so swerving left and right was really freaky because i don't want to topple over like an upturned turtle!

eventhough that sounds really cute, but it won't look cute if it was my car that's upturned.. alhamdulillah tak la.

alhamdulillah i managed to control my car. alhamdulillah i did not panic when my car swerved out of control.

alhamdulillah i did not cause any accidents as well.

good thing also, i got a gift from my friend! 

alhamdulillah. rasa ok balik =)

the next day lak...

i walked into my office that morning. and i saw my boss and colleague looking at me in a way that, aiyo.. how to describe ek? that mischievous look sort of thing, you know? but i buat dunno je la.

and theeeennnn..

my other colleague ni datang kat i.

dia tanya saya, "apasal u itu macam? saya tada tau!"

i lagi la tak tau. i tanya la dia, apa pasal dia kan.

dia cakap "itu video u punya, kita sume sudah tengok!"

panggeling gelinggg *sound effect kaca pecah*

rupa rupanya, boss pun dah tengok..

apa tak diorang tengok i semacam pagi tu kan. 

jangan cakap la. i memang tak mampu nak tengok bos lepas tu.

bukan merajuk. i was afraid he might not take me seriously. ye la. i'm supposed to be an engineer.. tak serious langsung bila dalam video kan. 

haihh..

so my advise to you young ones.

if you plan to make youtube videos, think about the consequences you might face in future. you think you can stomach your future employers to know and watch your videos? if you insist, make your profile not related to your real name sangat la.. so if they google you, they wont find your 'other life'. ecehhh! hahaha!

but it's up to u.

oh tertinggal pulak. haritu masa tengah jog on the treadmill, i tersadung. yes. i tripped.

and then jatuh atas that board monitor thingy. orang kiri kanan tengok (kot), maka saya terus off-kan treadmill tu, took my bottle and walked away as fast as i could. malu teramat!!

oh well.

despite all the pelik-ness of these few days, i do have a lot to be grateful about.

and one thing's for sure, i have people that cares for me and of course, i thank Allah SWT for the experiences. hopefully i'll learn my lessons, and continue on trying to be a better person.

Thunder

Assalamualaikum~

it's raining really hard now, and along with the rain, are thunders and lightnings.

because of that, i feel like sharing this:

Surah Ar-Ra'd (Thunder)

13.11 For each one are successive [angels] before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allah . Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.


13.12 It is He who shows you lightening, [causing] fear and aspiration, and generates the heavy clouds.


13.13 And the thunder exalts [ Allah ] with praise of Him - and the angels [as well] from fear of Him - and He sends thunderbolts and strikes therewith whom He wills while they dispute about Allah ; and He is severe in assault


*Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.
please read the full Surah. i find it really amazing. like how besar kuasa Allah SWT and how everything happens with reasons only Allah SWT knows. =')

well, it is for me because, considering my lifestyle, how i was brought up, my environment, everything about myself even, have not been encouraging for me to be hijab-ed and covered.
being able to stand up against the negativities, learning every step of the way to be a better person (amiiinnn!), potraying a muslim woman boldly, changing my lifestyle, and so much more, these are my accomplishments! 


and it all begins with a niat to wear tudung.

Fainted, got up and taught a new word

yes yes, it was my Birthday yesterday and yes yes, i did NOT celebrate it this time.
why?

simple.

because i don't need to. =)

i just want to stay at home, relax and absorb everything and every blessings i've received this year.
last year, i wished that 2010 will be filled with unexpected events, changes, fun and success.

alhamdulillah i've had just that =)

i am truly thankful for all the wishes from you at Facebook! you made me feel special! hehehee!! and my friends and family who've called and texted, i love you guys!!! =D

oh, i got the shock of my life when my friend told me Yuna actually posted my Hijab Chill tutorial on her Tumblr. i was like serious?!?!? and my eyes teared up, for what reason, i also don't know, i'm weird that way..
and when i saw it, i was like..

okay. so is Yuna gonna wear the hijab like me?

hahaha!! fat chance! her style is waaaaay cooler! =D

she also commented on my post of the Maysaa event!

Wedding Videos Mania

Mania la sangat.

this manic, i don't know how it suddenly blossomed into our lives, but now girls everywhere are swooning over the 'fairytale' wedding.

remember what's-her-name? anak Naza tu.. (in case you haven't, watch it here)

remember how the video circulated in Facebook and the girls were like "omgadahh cantiknya wedding ni", "baby, i nak wedding camni", "sooooo romantic wannn ahhh, i waaaaant!", etc etc?

oh and there were others that went "apa nak jadi dengan orang melayu, nak follow follow budaya mat salleh", "gila apa ke pompuan ni", "8million?!?! lebih baik derma duit tu kat Palestine", etc etc.

whichever your reaction was, i tak kisah, but no doubt you all watched the wedding video.

and more and more videos of that 'perfect-fairytale-romantic' wedding are circulating. and honestly, i nak muntah.

ok fine, they ARE freaking beautiful and DUHH it looks perfect. but i can't help but smirk at these videos.

it's like a showcase of wealth!

i've been to soooo many weddings, and have been bridesmaid to most, so i know i am credible to talk about this, thank you very much!

weddings don't have to be so elaborate, so expensive, so extravaganza, so glamorous and so over-the-top, because wedding is just an event for friends and family to celebrate the union of a man and a lady. it's just the time to "show off", kan? ala, i'm a girl. i know.

so what if you can't afford to have men in skirts to carry you on tilam to bersiram? so what if you can't have a hall made of roses? so what if your wedding is simple and small? so what if you don't wear designer dresses?

it isn't about how it would look on you and your family if it's small. it's you, isn't it?

it's how you would feel about your wedding.

if you're worried people would say "kesiannya, wedding kecil je", or "tak cukup budget kot", or "kedekut siol", etc etc.. i say THE HECK WITH THEM!!

it's our wedding and if we love our family, love our future partner and their family, love our friends, then all that talk is not going to affect you.

go and celebrate being an official Mr or Mrs! not celebrate being rich or showing it off.

memang la nak show off, but i'd rather show off the L.O.V.E than showing off the moolah loaned from the bank.

think realistically. wedding is meant to be once in a lifetime. make it matter! don't make it LOOK like it matter. the videos were made beautifully (kudos to videographers!), but in reality, its different. very very different.

so if you want a perfect, fairytale wedding, you can, but don't put these people as a benchmark. it's not a competition! it's not a trend!

make it your fairytale, not by wealth, but by (as corny as this sounds) love. 

and make your future wedding a fairytale in reality, not just in videos and photos.

there's something about this month..

a lot of people i know and care about are leaving our beloved country to either pursue their career or their studies.

to all of you who are already in a foreign country, are now a foreigner, are missing malaysian cuisine, are missing nasi ganja, are wishing you're in a country where manglish (malay + english) is the first language, etc etc..

well, just suck it up, because you've got what a lot of people would love to do! (and yes, i'm one of them..)

my foot have been itching a lot and kata orang, kalau tapak kaki gatal, orang tu gi jauh. tapi ada gak orang kata, kalau tapak kaki gatal means orang tu nak terajang someone..

whichever it is, i rather hope for the former. heee! tanak terajang orangggggg!!

bukan apa, i nak gi jauh jauh pun because i want to collect experience. be away from my comfort zone. learn new things, meet new people, learn different culture and if possible, new language.

it's my dream which i hope i can make come true.

Deja Vu

I think all the deja vus',

were real experiences or encounters that we had had,

and its a deja vu because

someone meddled with time.

come on.. think about it! or at least hear me out.. =p

we've all watched movies about time travelling, jumpers, transporters, time machines, back to the futures (all 3 of them), futurama, apa-movie-disney-yang-pasal-budak-tu-gi-future, etc etc.

you know what i'm talking about kan. if you don't, memang i hantar pelempang guna pos laju to you. bagi address first.

ANYWAY,

what if someone already found a way to meddle with time?

what if someone is playing around or experimenting with time?

we're going through the present like nobody's business, then patah balik, then go into it again.

and it's deja vu!

what if..

who knows what people are capable of! we are only using 10% of our brain. what if someone's using more than that? hence, able to create this thingy that can manipulate time. mana la tau kan.

one cannot know, out of billions of beings on this Planet, that one can create or have such power.
