story of hajar

assalamualaikum~

kom apa, kombaaaat~~

sambung sendiri sampai pusing balik kat assalamualaikum ya. hehe!

so, today agak busy. i had to run some errands and then tadi i helped Hajar, syrian refugee yang buat Tudung Mutia by taking her to the UN centre in PJ because she wanted to buy insurance for her mother.

i never had the opportunity to really really talk to her.
the first time i met her, her english wasn't so good so we both kinda had trouble communicating and since she had very little vocab, we spoke little and watch the kids play when we had that awkward silence moments.

now alhamdulillah, after months of talking to her, and she also had talked to a lot of people, her english is way better and just now, i was able to understand her real story.
hurray!
haha =p

rupanya, Hajar ni my age! and she has 3 kids already! masha Allah, all strong boys lak tu =)
the eldest is 9, and the youngest is 3. ke 4? lupa lak =p

i thought she's a syrian, turns out, she's from Iraq. she was born and raised in iraq.
she said, when saddam was there, it was peaceful. "everyone is like brothers" she said.
and when saddam was gone, the syiah wanted to take over the country, by annihilating the sunnis. sounds kasar kan? but it's the truth.

she said her brother was killed because his name was suffian (not sure the spelling though) and because his neighbours told the 'people' that he was a sunni. she said he was captured 5 times, but alhamdulillah he was released. they had to pay the 'people' to get him released..
but the last time, unfortunately, they did not want any money. they just want blood. Hajar and her family found his body in a river.

"alhamdulillah we found the body. some people don't find the body. so i pray to Allah, if they want to take his life, then fine, but let us find his body." she said.

it was kind of hard to share my feelings with her. to be honest, i felt like hugging her and tell her i'm really sorry for all the pain she and her family had to go through. but seeing her being composed, i had to hold back. she's so strong!

she kept saying "alhamdulillah", "subhanallah" as she was telling me her life story. eventhough i write a lot of subhanallah, alhamdulillah, mashaAllah and stuff, it sounds awkward saying it. i don't know why, but when i do want to say it, it'll come out as a whisper. like i'm saying it to myself.

"i saw the most beautiful flower in the garden just now! subhanallah *whisper*" <-- me.

anyway.

so when iraq wasn't safe for them anymore, she said going out of the house could get them killed, they fled to syria.

she and her family stayed in syria for 3 years.
she said, at first, syria was the best. it's a nice place, people there are kind. and then, the syiah took over. she said syria became worse than iraq. the planes would come and drop bombs at houses.
she said they couldn't take it, so when they went to 'them' (not sure who), they told her that they'll be sending her and her family to malaysia.

since there was no internet in syria then, she only assumed what our country would be like. so they all packed their winter clothings, and came to malaysia. at this point, we were laughing =p

she said when they reached KL, it was raining. "in our country, it only rains in winter. so i thought i did not bring enough winter clothes!" she said.

ehehehe!

she said in iraq and syria, when it's hot, it doesn't rain at all. only rains in winter. so subhanallah, we have hot and wet in one season!
=') it's a blessing really!

so when we reached UNHCR, ok, i was completely wrong. i thought the UN would be like a welcoming place. you know, with opened gates, sort of like a hospital, but caters to help refugees and stuff..

NOPE. completely NOPE.
it was like a prison! the gates were closed, people wait outside of the gates because they can't get in. because the security was kind of entahpape.
serious rasa nak sepuk je mamat tu. hmph!

Hajar called the person she called earlier to help her get in. and then the guy showed up and told the security guard to let us in.
we got in, and from the inside, it's like walking through imigresen yang scary. we got in some more, and there were offices left, right, front and center. hajar said they all have to pass all of the interviews in order to be able to stay here.
if you don't pass, you have to repeat.
until you have a UN card.
it takes a whole day, she said. so if they were called for an interview, they'd have to pack food for the kids, and bring drinks.
"oh, so you all have picnic inside here!" i said. awkward laughs..

-__-"

turns out, the insurance guy went back already. on the door, it says that opening hours was from 9am to 4pm, and it wasn't even 4!
so all that effort to go there, wasted.
the guy who got us in told hajar to come in some other time. it was a good thing that he was very polite. kalau tak.. memang aku naik amok kat situ. haahaha! (yeah right.)

what to do..
we went back to her place. on the way there, we talked about her other work. other than sewing, she cooks really well! she can do cooking classes, and even catering.
kalau nak tau lebih lanjut, if you want to know more, check it out here:

she made this kuah hijau thing with almond, and i, who wasn't a fan of all this hummus kinda thing, fell in love with it. dapat 2 balang tadi! happy sangat!

i asked her how did she learn cooking.
"my mother was going blind, but slowly. so she tells me what to do in kitchen." she said. and she started since she was 12. i dulu pun tolong masak kat dapur, tapi sehapak pun tak ingat.. wahahaha boooo!

so that's what her insurance was for. her mother needs to do eye surgery coz the doctor said she's got cataract. they can't afford the surgery. so yeah.

"you are very strong" i told her.
"ah well. we refugees. our psychology is different because we are refugees. we run here and there." she said.
i think she meant that being a refugee, they have to be strong. they don't think about living lavishly, about clothes, or cars, any of that stuff. they just think of surviving.

she's hoping to get her turn to go to canada. just like this other family in shah alam. they're all looking forward to go there because they can really live there. they can go to school there, work properly, get a driver's license, etc.
being in malaysia is good and all for them, because it's a muslim country. everything is halal, people are nice, but there are restrictions for the refugees. so i pray too, that they'll be able to live a normal life soon, in sha Allah.

for now while they are here, i hope to be able to help them as much as i can.

ps: i might have gotten some info wrong. sorry, sebab kekadang tak terpaham dia kata apa heeee..

La Kayena in MODVIER!!

Assalamualaikum!

Alhamdulillah =')

last year, i approached kak sara and asked her how to be part of the Modvier family. back then, Modvier was full. they only open for weekend slots, and i thought, ok la tu. nak try la.
and then, i forgot about it.
wahahaha!

months later, i received an email from kak sara and she invited me to be a vendor in Modvier's new place!

at first i was hesitant.
should i? i was so used to handling things by myself, from production right up to administration, that i wasn't sure if i should be a vendor at any boutique.
takut dengan online lagi, jadi double work pulak.
i didn't know why i was so worried. haha!
no reason pun actually. i was just nervous, that's all.
i prayed and prayed and alhamdulillah, i agreed and signed the contract.
this was waaayyyy before i joined Maleeqa in Kuantan.

tu la. Allah Maha Mengetahui. Dia punya Plan lagi best!

nadrah became very curious and started catching up to everything i do and say.
she imitates my actions and even try to imitate the things i say.
what was first a jibber jabber, now she can actually say the word.
we can even converse with her!
and i know she's trying to help me clean up the house.. but she still doesn't get it.
"nadrah, you're supposed to throw the tissue after you 'lap'. not 'lap' your face after you 'lap' the floor, table, door, toys, etc!" -__-"
mashaAllah. hehe!

so with that said, i knew i had to share my responsibilities in La Kayena with someone. and Modvier was that.
they can do the shipping part, so all i have to focus on is the production and marketing.
in sha Allah, may this be the answer =)

my dear La Kayena sisters,
only Allah knows how to return your kindness and support for La Kayena.
many times i cried, forced myself to stay up, forced myself to stay strong while taking nadrah all over the place, trying to settle one problem after another and taking care of her, my husband and our home, and then trying to learn from mistakes while i keep making new ones and so much more.
it wasn't an easy ride.
i even had my studies, exams and project paper to complete.

but you all made it all worth it.
i've received emails from some of the customers and there were a few emails that made me cry of gratitude.
i know La Kayena offers not much of fashionable clothings. i'm really not a creative person since i was born. hehe!

but i like to dress up. and i intend to allow women to dress comfortably for practical purposes.
yes, housewives, students, working women, you all!
we are all busy trying to gain knowledge, running all over the place for our children's sake, we're making sure our husband and children can sleep comfortably through the night, we're busy helping others, we're all strong emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically.

Do continue supporting La Kayena ya! =')
FYI, La Kayena is on full support for Shawlsuriy. Shawlsuriy consists of tailors who are Syrian refugees here in Malaysia. So, please know that every purchase from La Kayena and Shawlsuriy, a portion will be given to Syria/Palestine, in sha Allah.
=)

Getaway

Assalamualaikum~

It was a few days before chinese new year's holiday when mom, my aunt, nadrah and i went to Terengganu for a bit of a getaway.

My mom's got a friend who owns a B&B (bed and breakfast) inn at Kijal called Kijalena.
It has been so long since i've been to the beach, so i was so happy that my mom asked me if i wanted to join. OF COURSE MA, YES! AKU NAK TENANGKAN MATA SIKIT NI HA!
masa tu i was macam serabut sikit, sebab...
takdeideanaktulisapauntukbukumuahahahaha

and i thought, it could be a good learning experience for nadrah. hehee =)

of course, a few hours of being in the car was boring for nadrah and the car seat was just crampin' her style. haha!

alhamdulillah we reached our destination and when i laid eyes on the view from the B&B, SUBAHANALLAH!

ok the picture wasn't doing the view any justice, and that fishing pole, well. perhiasan. haha!

seriously, it was so refreshing!
the air was calm, the water was beautiful - i could see the blue part and the green part, and it was in a kampung area, so it wasn't busy at all. it was just us and nature. =')

the moment we stepped out of the car, nadrah saw the swimming pool and immediately she wanted to swim.
she kept looking at the pool, and said "cim, cim" which means, swim, swim. -_-'

she got what she wanted. we went swimming.
the best thing about this B&B, is that the whole household is so unique. i pun tak reti nak explain. but the pool area, memang banyak tempat lepak. so while nadrah and i were swimming, my mom, aunty shikin (my aunt) and aunty nina (the owner of Kijalena) were chilling by the poolside.

in case y'alls were wondering, this is where we stayed. this is the chalet, 3 rooms, each has its own toilet, there's wifi too. so donch worri. =)
the owners live in a house opposite of the chalet (in the same compound of course) with their family. they're all super nice!

so yeah! nice kan? =D
after swimming, nadrah and i went exploring.
oh ya, nadrah got a toy horse from aunty nina. because there was an actual horse in their compound.

jeng jengggg!
his name was something like cavalli? roberto cavalli? eh tu nama kain.
something like that la. hehe!

it's not their horse, but they're looking after it for a friend.
so the orang kampung suka betul tengok the horse. they would stop their motorcycles and watch the horse eat or whatever secara berjemaah. hehe!
i would love to chill with the horse, but nadrah was between scared and amazed at it. she's like that with everything actually. wahaha!
she extends her hand to touch it, and the second i put her close enough to it, she withdraws her hand and lean back. takut.
ceit. there was a monkey too, and a guard dog (we didn't go near it. takut. haha!)

so now she knows what "hosh" and "angki" looks like in real life. good girl!

then we went to the beach, and nadrah was so squirmish that i got so uncomfortable. her squirms made my tudung go everywhere. i was so worried my tudung would flip and fly or something. haha!
good thing there was a log, and we sat there. so nadrah can see the sand but they're not in contact.
the sand was "geyi" to her! (geyi = geli)
hahahaa!

good thing she didn't want to "cim" in the sea. gila apa?!
nadrah fefeeling kew tewwww~
=p

baby, tak ponek lagi ke?
ummi dah pancit gilos ok...

memandangkan it's a B&B inn, not a hotel, so we had to look for dinner ourselves. not to worry! they have a pasar malam on monday nights, and mesra mall is just about 15minutes drive. it's all good!

that night was a monday night, and we all enjoyed eating our nasi kerabu and keropok lekor yang sedap gilos and tak berminyak. rindu pulak!

the next day, we went to kuala terengganu, which was seriously far than i thought, and got ourselves some keropok, keropok lekor and.. budu and all sorts la! we bought them all at the pasar payung.
after shopping, we went to the masjid terapung and that's where nadrah saw fishies chasing after food.
the fishes we're used to seeing are the ones in aquariam. so, no kejar-kejar la.
she got so excited everytime the fishes goes after the food she threw in.
kept repeating "pish, pish, pish, pish" sambil bagi ikan makan, sambil tengok my face, sambil tengok my mom's face. hahaha!

alhamdulillah =)
cantik masjid ni!

when we got back to Kijalena, of course nadrah wanted to swim.
but not after we chill at the beach jap ye sayang!
ololoooo~ so gadis melayu terakhir! hehehee!

tokmom, stopped taking pictures and get me a drink! - said nadrah.
=p

=')

we went swimming shortly after (since nadrah insisted), but we swam for like, less than 30minutes i think? 15 minutes like that coz nadrah got tired and she wanted the keropok the aunties were eating at the pool side.

that night, we went to mesra mall for dinner =)
mesra mall tu ok la gak, banyak kids. nadrah loves seeing kids so she was happy.
there was this girl around her age, and she was so sweet! kissing nadrah and smiling a lot. nadrah even played with a kakak who wasn't even playing with her! hahahaha! kelakar tengok!
and then there was this exercise machines display at the concourse, and the kids just took over the place. they were playing with the shake-lemak thingy and the treadmill.

reminds me of my childhood. hehe!

we headed for home the next day after breakfast.

my mom actually intended for me to get the writer's block out of me, but i got so tired coz nadrah.. was being like any other toddler yang 'nak kenal dunia'.

i wasn't inspired to write after the trip, but i was inspired by the beauty of the sea.
i felt so at peace when i look at the beach.
all of my senses were remembering everything.
i've been holding on to too much of metal that i almost forgot what sand felt like. my eyes were used to looking at screens - tv screen, laptop, phone - that i almost forgot the colours of the sea water. my ears were so used to hearing noise, that i forgot what calm sounds like.
it was amazing.

i felt truly blessed that Allah allowed me to come here. it was a wake up call!
i thought, Allah's creation is this beautiful, then Allah must be..Wow. the creation is nothing like the Creator, right?
subhanallah. subhanallah. glorified is Allah. glorified is Allah. =')

so, if you're interested to stay at this place, here's their contact number!

thank you ma =)
i love you so much.

thank you and all praise to Allah for this rezeki =)
