OH MY INGGERIS!

Assalamualaikum!

Sesetengah orang tidak faham akan kepentingan dalam menguasai Bahasa Inggeris.
Bukan nak cakap English tu penting gila sampai tak reti cakap bahasa ibunda. No!
Bahasa Melayu is important, but being able to speak in English is an added value to everyone’s capability. Sedar tak sedar, perkataan-perkataan dalam Bahasa Melayu kita ni pun kebanyakkannya derive dari bahasa inggeris.

Example:
Terer.
In English is terror, which means an instance or cause of intense fear or anxiety.
But “terer” in malay means hebat, bagus gila, awesome to the max.

Horer.
In English , Horror means an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting; a shuddering fear.
Whereas “horer” in Malay means menyampah, entahpape, geli, dan seumpanya.

ha. Amik.

I don’t know any other countries who do what we Malaysians do: Speak multiple languages in one sentence. Seriously!
Speak tau! Bukan nyanyi! If you notice, kokopops aka kpops ke, Hindustan ke, Turkish ke, they put random English words in their songs so that we, yang tak faham what they’re singing about, can at least understand the English parts. But when they talk, they don’t “campurkan” their language like how we Malaysians do.
That’s how cool and awesome Malaysians are!

So back to importance of English.

Saya, selaku ex-English tutor, memang strongly encourage everyone to try and speak better in English. I know loads of students that are good at writing and answering questions in English but bila nak cakap, takut takut.
Remember, it’s just a language. Kalau berterabur mana pun, it’s still considered cool that you can speak more than 1 language! =D

Oleh sebab saya bukan seorang guru Bahasa Inggeris dan takde la “terer” mana pun, anda anda sekalian boleh tingkatkan lagi Bahasa Inggeris anda dengan menonton Oh My English! di Astro pada 20 May 2012 di Astro TVIQ (channel 610)! Program ni berkonsep komedi dan dibintangi retis retis popular tau! =D
Pergi la ke website mereka dan berjanji untuk bercakap English dengan lebih baik! Hehe!

Saya dah buat daaahhh! Good luck ya!!

terer yg org kita selalu ckp tu, lecturer saya cakap, MUNGKIN berasal drpd pekataan 'thorough'. Sebutannya kan 'ta-rhe'. Tapi mungkin la dia kata. Mungkin ye. Bukan confirm betul.

kakak.
saya suka entry nih.
saya tak fasih English tapi boleh & suka nak cakap dlm English.
Tapi, masalahnya, sebab saya tak fasih, grammar teruk. Bila bercakap, tersilap, mesti ada orang yang gelak, ejek2,kutuk.
Baik cakap dalam Melayulah kalau tak tahu Eng.
Cane tuh? Tak boleh nak confident.

kudos to Maria for this timely post.
i think there is an inherent problem with the recent graduates in Malaysia nowadays... and looking at some of the comments here, i think i could gauge the reason why.

perli ek? heheh...ke campur2 bahasa dalam satu ayat itu bagus?

we mix languages because sometimes we can't come up with
the equivalent of a bahasa/english word fast enough
thus opting for an easier approach thus mixing the languages..!
and some words can't be directly translated or explained in bahasa...kan? :)

a year ago...a y1 pupil of mine who can't read and speak english...
fluently said, "my name is temulak"..
behold! the influence of entertainment! ;)
